University of Sanya

University of Sanya (SU) was founded by Geely Holdings Group in Sanya, Hainan province, 2005 with the former name of Sanya College. It is the oldest and largest undergraduate college in Sanya and one of the fastest growing and most competitive private universities in China.

With a total investment of three billion yuan ($469.2 million), SU covers an area of 3,000 mu (200 hectares) and a total construction area of nearly 500,000 square meters.

It has 16 secondary colleges and 68 undergraduate majors including nine disciplines such as economics, management, law, literature, education, art, engineering, science, and agriculture. It has modern teaching and living facilities, such as an academic exchange center, an art center, an experimental center, a computer center, a standard swimming pool, and a golf training ground. It also has two high-tech libraries with more than 2 million books.

SU offers featured courses such as golf management and cruise management and services to develop international tourism in Hainan. It has also established training programs for hotel management, and the tourism and culture industries to cultivate high-quality and practical talents.

SU has established Hainan's first school of the fashion and health industry, and a health industry research institute with the National Development and Reform Commission International Cooperation Center. In 2016, Silk Road Business School was formally established. Sanya University became the initiator for global maritime silk road education. Additionally, it has set up a cross-border cooperation mechanism with ESSEC Business School, Niels Brock-Copenhagen Business College and International Islamic University.

At present, SU has established over 30 communities for school-government cooperation, school-enterprise cooperation and cooperation with other universities. The partners include the State Forestry Bureau, Hainan Department of Culture, Provincial Tourism Committee, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Institute of Deep-sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Microsoft innovation center in Hainan.

SU built the first center for public diplomacy studies of private universities with the former minister of foreign affairs of China. It was elected as a member of the Association of Universities (Colleges) of Applied Science and has been selected into the Fifth National Education Reform and Innovation Model along with Fudan University and Beijing Normal University.

SU was appraised excellent in employment rate of graduates among colleges and universities in Hainan. It ranked second in China's comprehensive private universities for three years in a row and was named the top six-star private university in China on the 2018 list of Chinese universities released by the Chinese alumni network.

SU has teamed up with many famous universities in the world including University of Miami, University of Arkansas, Moscow State University and Berkeley College. Cooperation with universities in Africa, Europe and America has increased the number of international students significantly. SU is also an ideal place for many international forums like Humboldt Scholars Forum on Globalization, China Forum on Global Enterprises and 2017 China-ASEAN Forum for Private Higher Education Development and Cooperation.
