Haikou People’s Hospital

Founded in 1901 and known as the Sino-French Clinic, Haikou People's Hospital, now affiliated with Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine, is a national 3A-level general hospital, the highest evaluation in China's grading system for public hospitals. It integrates clinical treatment, medical training, scientific research and health care services. The hospital passed the ISO 9001:2000 international quality certification in 2001 and teamed up with Huashan Hospital, which is affiliated with Shanghai's Fudan University.

Haikou People's Hospital covers an area of 290 mu (about 19.4 hectares), with a service area of 250,000 square meters and 1,950 beds in total. It has built a complete healthcare system consisting of 40 clinical departments, 13 medical technology departments and six comprehensive outpatient departments. With more than 3,100 healthcare professionals on its staff, the hospital receives more than 49,000 inpatients and about one million outpatients every year.

There are five elite doctors who enjoy special allowances from the State Council, China's Cabinet, leading the medical research and healthcare services of the hospital. It is also home to over 410 senior technical professionals, including six tutors of doctoral candidates and 41 tutors of postgraduates. In 2015, a postdoctoral research station was established.

The hospital has three national key clinical specialties (anesthesiology, urology, nursing), two provincial featured medical disciplines (orthopedics and urology), and three provincial specialties (an oral implants department, minimally invasive surgery of liver, and urinary surgery).

Having spent about 800 million yuan, the hospital now owns many internationally advanced medical devices, including Da Vinci robots, PET-CT, dual source CT scanners, 256-row CT scanners, 3.0T magnetic resonance imaging systems, cardiovascular imaging systems, digital flat angiography systems, electronic linear accelerators, and more.

The hospital sticks to the credo of "serving the masses by guarding their health", and adheres to the vision of "building a hospital full of humanistic care and pursuing the higher quality of medical service". In recent years, it has made sound achievements in promoting its international image and has been rated as the "Advanced Unit of Healthcare Support of Boao Forum for Asia" and among the "Top 10 Hospital of Haikou city."

Currently, the hospital is striving to seize the opportunities brought by the building of a free trade zone and port by trying to recruit more English-speaking talent who could cater to the needs of foreign expats on the island of Hainan.
