Six companies from Quzhou in east China's Zhejiang province plan to invest 7 billion yuan ($1 billion) in southwest China's Sichuan province to help alleviate local poverty, local media reported on Dec 2.

The investment involves six projects, which were finalized at the Quzhou City Brand Launch Event held in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, on Dec 1, and will focus on developing the local economy through tourism and special products.

Helping cities and provinces in west China overcome poverty is an important assignment for Quzhou. As of mid-November, the city has already completed the 36 tasks designated to it by Zhejiang Provincial Government, including 20 or so Quzhou companies' investments in western China.

During the event, intangible cultural heritage performances from the two places were staged to show their profound culture and history, including Quzhou's burning incense straw dragon dance, Gaoqiang, a local opera, as well as Sichuan's face-changing and fire spitting, both of which are part of Sichuan opera.
