2. Bixia Temple

The nationally known Bixia Temple of Taoism sits on the southern summit of Mount Tai. Established in 1009, it was expanded and renovated in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

It is made up of 12 major buildings with 360 bronze tiles, which represent the 365 days of a year. In the very middle of the hall is a statue of the Goddess Bixia, which was created in the Ming Dynasty. Bixia was worshiped on Mount Tai and was a popular patron saint of the local people.

The temple was chosen as one of the 21 important national Taoist temples by the State Council in 1983 and is a State-level major cultural relic preservation site.
