In 2017, the government stated that it didn't spare any efforts in improving living standards and well-being of the local residents.
Yangzhou has initially completed in improving its people's livelihood of food safety, environmental protection, and community construction. The city added 224,000 new work opportunities and 11,000 people were transformed from the rural labor force. The per capita disposable income of low-income rural households also reached 7,000 yuan ($1,107).
The city has newly revised and expanded 11 kindergartens and built seven primary and middle schools. Some 1,200 students with poverty-stricken family backgrounds received financial support.
Yangzhou has integrated the basic medical insurance system for urban and rural residents. 18 rural medical and health centers were fully built and put into operation, and 115 primary health institutions were included in the medical treatment alliance.
The city is eagerly preparing for the 19th Sports Games of Jiangsu and has finished building a swimming and a shooting center. It also successfully hosted the annual Jianzhen International Half Marathon, the Women's Sabre World Cup, and the Deep Submarine Open.
The social security system is also improving, as the city establishes a municipal public legal service center, implements community building action plan, strengthens national defense education, and advances reserve force construction.
