During the Spring Festival, it is a traditional but still popular Hunan dish that hosts use to treat their guests with.

The main ingredients of the soup are fermented glutinous rice, brown sugar, red dates, dried persimmon and dried longan (sometimes litchi) and egg. First, fermented glutinous rice, brown sugar, red dates, dried persimmon and dried longan are boiled in water, then an egg is mixed in. Next, the soup is poured into a bowl with the yellow egg flower, red date and round longan to create an appetizing display. The soup is said to be able to nourish the skin.
