Graduate School of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences

Founded in 1958, this academy has 760 faculty members, 50 percent of whom have doctor’s degrees. It offers 62 master’s degree programs and eight PhD programs, and has two post-doctoral research stations, with some 650 graduate students, including students from all over the world.

It has strong connections with universities, think tanks, and research institutions around the world and has around 30 distinguished research fellows. 

The academy sponsors the World Forum on China Studies, which has become an important channel for worldwide scholars exchanging ideas on the subject. 

Its library has a collection of around one million books, and was formerly the Saint John’s University library. It mainly covers philosophy, history, the economy, law, literature, politics, sociology, local chronicles, and reference books. It is also a depositary of the World Bank, and has connections with the Asia Foundation and Ford Foundation.
