Located in the capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Medical University is a multi-disciplinary university that has its focus on medicine and offers diverse disciplines such as science, management, engineering, literature, and law.

Established in 1956, it is one of the country's oldest medical institutes of higher learning that was founded in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities after the founding of People's Republic of China.

It adheres to the concept of open education and attaches much importance on international exchange and cooperation. Long-term cooperative relations have been established with a number of domestic universities, including the Peking University Health Science Center, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Capital Medical University and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has also developed various academic exchanges and cooperation with medical universities and research institutes in Japan, Mongolia and Thailand.
