Top justice officials listened to a work report on the application of the Internet in public legal services and expedited concrete research measures on Feb 23.

Zhang Jun, minister of justice, pointed out that promotion of the application of the Internet is crucial in addressing deficiencies such as regional imbalance, underdevelopment and inadequate supply in public legal services.

He said that fresh ideas are required, saying that the main purpose of the Internet is to fully serve the people instead of carrying out simple administration.

Making good use of new technologies and updating new systems so that the public legal services can better reflect public opinions and serve the public are required, said Zhang.

He said, for example, that people can have continuous access to customized, on-going, accurate and universally applicable legal services without leaving home.

By setting up laws and regulations and case bases, and by offering online services, Zhang said, the law can serve to conciliate contradictions and disputes, provided that all people consciously use legal thinking and means to solve problems and raise their legal awareness.

The Ministry of Justice has been working to strengthen the top-level design and promote the application of the Internet in public legal services by planning and coordinating all kinds of resources since last year.

For example, it organized a legal consultation group composed of personnel from more than 380,000 legal service agencies.
