3. Industries - the largest industrial city in Inner Mongolia autonomous region

1) Steel industry

Led by Baogang Group, Baotou has an annual steel production capacity of more than 14 million tons (excluding Baogang group’s new projects)

2) Aluminum industry

Its leading enterprises are Baotou Aluminum Group and East Hope Baotou Rare Earth Aluminum Company, with an annual capacity of 1.3 million tons.

3) Equipment manufacturing industry

Baotou boasts some leading enterprises in equipment manufacturing, including Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Corporation and Inner Mongolia North Heavy Industries Group Co Ltd, which can manufacture 50,000 highway trucks, 800 mineral vehicles and 4,000 railway rolling stock units per year.

4) Electricity industry

Baotou has a total installation power capacity of over 8 million kilowatts. The wind power generation is 11.56 million kilowatts, with another 15.48 million kilowatts under construction. A total of 2.21 million kilowatts of solar power generation is also under construction.

5) Rare earth industry

Baotou has about 100 rare earth enterprises and can produce over 1,000 rare earth products in 200 different varieties. It has an annual mineral concentrate capacity of more than 100,000 tons.

6) Coal-chemicals industry

Shenhua Group, a large coal-based energy company, has invested 18 billion yuan ($2.90 billion) to build Inner Mongolia’s largest coal to Olefin project and put it into operation.
