Excerpt from the 2017 Pingtan Government Work Report

In 2016, Pingtan has made great progress in development under the leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the State Council and Fujian provincial government.

The city's GDP totaled 20.572 billion yuan, an increase of 7 percent over last year. Fixed assets investment reached 39.571 billion yuan, an increase of 15.3 percent.

Its urban residents' per capita disposable income reached 33,215 yuan, an increase of 8.1 percent, while rural residents' reached 13,610 yuan, up 7.6 percent on last year.

2017 is the year the 19th CPC National Congress will be held, and is also a key year for Pingtan to promote the further opening-up of communications with Taiwan and building itself into an international tourism island.

The government will strive to keep the city's economic development in the fast lane with an estimated GPD growth rate of 9.5 percent, and the registered urban unemployment rate will be kept under 3.5 percent.

To achieve the above goals, Pingtan will focus on accomplishing the following six tasks:

1. Make full efforts to build a platform for cross-Straits cooperation and further enhance its appeal to Taiwan;

2. Promote the construction of the free trade zone and further enhance the driving force of innovation;

3. Build an international tourism island with high standards and further enhance its influence;

4. Promote infrastructure construction and industry cultivation;

5. Optimize the environment to improve urban carrying capacity;

6. Coordinate economic and social development to further improve people's well-being.
