The marine industry in Pingtan is mainly composed of three parts, namely, marine products processing, quality agriculture and marine biology.

An advanced seafood processing base situated at Songnan village, Liushui town in the city is currently under construction. With an investment of 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) the base covers an area of 26,000 square meters. The first phase of the project will see the installation of advanced aquatic product processing equipment, which is expected to be put into use in the fourth quarter of 2017.

In the second phase, some relevant research facilities shall also be constructed in bid to apply the latest cutting-edge technologies, including ultra-high temperature sterilization, quick-freeze and supercritical extraction, to its product processing.

A world-class marine industry logistics park, is also currently being built in the Aoqian town, Pingtan, as part of local government's efforts to further the development of the aquatic products processing industry in the city.

With an investment of 900 million yuan($ 130.7 million), the 40,000-square-meter park shall be composed of a seven-story cold storage facility, a three-story aquatic products processing workshop, as well as an equipment warehouse. The cold storage facility will have a storage capacity of 50,000 tons, with an annual storage volume estimated to reach almost 500,000 tons. After the marine industry park is completed, it will be able to freeze and process about 3.4 tons of aquatic products every year.
