Dongguan Street

Dongguan Street, an important thoroughfare of Yangzhou in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is 1,122 meters long. Originally paved with long stone flags, this street has been an arterial road traversing Yangzhou from west to east since the Tang Dynasty (AD618-907). 

The Dongguan Street, Dongquan Gate and vicinity constitute the Shuangdong Historical Block, which has typical Yangzhou characteristics and occupies an area of 83 hectares. With a population of over 10,000 and more than 20 important historic relics, it has recently been listed among the key historic streets under State-level preservation.

Dongguan means eastern city gate or the original Lijin Gate. The ancient street is parallel with the moat and, with elegant buildings, white walls, and dark tiles, gives visitors a sense of harmony and order. It represents Yangzhou's history and human landscape and integrates culture, entertainment and business.

There are over one hundred lanes passing through the street block, such as Herbaceous Peony Lane, Qionggua Temple, Culture Lane, Five Blessings Lane, Guangchu Gate and Shuangzhong Shrine.Their names sounding like poems, they bring people into a world of poetry and pictures. Some residences with special features are still kept intact. So if you visit these lanes, you will surely have unexpected and wonderful experiences.
