Baotou Airport has adjusted its flight procedures in order to facilitate the alignment of Beijing Daxing International Airport’s large-scale airspace operations network, according to an Oct 21 report in the Baotou Daily.

Airport officials said the flight procedure adjustment involved major changes to the Performance Based Navigation entry and exit procedures at Baotou Airport and to the traditional entry and exit procedures.

The peripheral routes and the entry and exit procedures of the airport have all been re-configured, officials said.

In order to ensure a smooth transition of the adjustment, controllers used simulators to perform proficient operations of new flight procedures and large passenger flow, as well as special-purpose simulation exercises. Officials said new procedures were designed and installed for existing tower monitoring equipment.

Beijing Daxing International Airport’s alignment marked the most significant airspace adjustment in China’s history of civil aviation -- with more than 200 air routes and over 4,000 flight routes adjusted, forming a new airspace operation network in China. Some 5,300 flights are involved.

Officials said that through the airspace adjustment, the layout, direction and airport flight procedures in the flight areas are more reasonable -- and the aircraft will be safer and more efficient during flights.

The adjustment covers a wide range of areas, extending from the China-Mongolia border in the north to the controlled area in Guilin in the south, and from the west of Inner Mongolia autonomous region in the west to the controlled area in Dalian in the east.

About 4,700 kilometers of airline mileage were added, officials said.
