Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, ranked first in the province in terms of total orders on JD.com during the Singles Day shopping extravaganza.

According to statistics released by the e-commerce giant, consumers from Jinan spent the most money on the platform, followed by Qingdao, Yantai, Jining, and Linyi. Residents of Jinan also bought the most imported products.

Statistics showed that people under 35 accounted for 57 percent of all consumers on the site.

The most popular products among Shandong residents included snacks, mobile phones, and other digital products.

Nuts and braised food sold the most, followed by mobile phones, clothing, beverages, personal care products, and computers.

Among Chinese provinces, Shandong residents bought the fifth highest number of iPhones on JD.com during the event.

The Singles Day spree also saw special promotions of agricultural products from poverty-stricken areas in the province, according to reports from JD.

The e-commerce platform has opened a number of special webpages for poverty alleviation projects. Apples, dates, and sweet potatoes from Binzhou were the three best-selling products being promoted, most of which were sold to Beijing.
