The Hunan Green Building Industry Development Forum, a part of the 2019 Hunan (Changsha) Prefabricated Building and Construction Technology Expo, was held on Oct 15.

It announced that, based on 10-year green building development, Hunan has 557 projects with Green Building Label certification, the 6th largest number in China. The total area of green buildings around the province reached 60.58 million sqm.

China rolled out its first set of national standards for green buildings in 2006, which calls for maximal conservation in energy, power, land, water and material to protect environment and reduce pollution during the construction and use of the buildings. There are three levels of green building qualifications now in China. About 80 percent of Hunan’s green buildings have achieved the top level.

Six Hunan provincial authorities, including the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Development and Reform Commission, and Department of Science and Technology, jointly published a plan of celebrating high-quality, green building development last year. According to the plan, as of 2020, all the new civil buildings in central cities should reach the green building standards, and more than 30 percent should be prefabricated ones.
