The city of Baotou in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region played host to 1.69 million tourists during the Oct 1-7 holiday, representing year-on-year growth of 10.9 percent, according to a report in the Baotou Daily.
Total tourism revenue hit 1.1 billion yuan ($154 million), surging 12.15 percent over the same period last year.
According to the statistics, most tourists coming to the city chose short tours of the local area, with stops at major tourist attractions such as Wudang Lamasery and the Meidai Monastery, as well as the Chilechuan scenic area, Nanhai Wetland and the Northern Weaponry Park.
To maintain a safe and orderly environment for tourists, the city introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions.
Local officials said that special arrangements were made to ensure that adequate numbers of staff were on duty to handle complaints over the holiday period.
