Origin of the Tribe
"Sonid" derives from “Sunit”, an ancient Mongolian tribe. In 1639, the Sonid tribe submitted to the Qing empire (1644-1911) and reorganized as the Sonid Left Banner and Sonid Right Banner.

Features of the Clothing
Sonid robes are loose and have no slits, matched with wide hems and horse-hoof sleeves. The number of purfles is the same as that of silk button loops, ranging from one to four. Men's robes are mainly dim colors, such as dark blue, purplish blue, ochre and dark purple; female robes are sky blue, grass green and dark green. In winter, men often wear eagle-shaped hats (made of fox skin) or round hats, while in spring and autumn they choose round hats with four ears. Women usually match the cone-shaped hats with a nap rim for their headgear. Leather boots are mostly for riding and cloth ones are used at home.

Dressing Customs
Generally, men tie their waistbands around their hips while women tie their girdles around their waists. Before putting on headgear, married women always separate their hair from the middle and then braid the bunches separately. Both men and women wrap their heads with white or light blue turbans .
