A total of 8.15 million tourists visited local tourist sites in Wuxi in Jiangsu province during the seven-day National Day holiday -- an increase of 3.4 percent year-on-year -- according to the local tourism bureau.

The city's tourism revenue for the holiday reached 9.52 billion yuan ($1.33 billion), up 10.2 percent from last year.

Several of Wuxi's biggest tourism resorts organized special activities to attract more visitors and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China during the holiday.

Lingshan Mountain scenic area and Nianhua Bay remained the most popular tourist attractions as last year, which were included in the top 10 hot tourist attractions nationwide.

A number of tourists also enjoyed night tours along the Grand Canal in the Qingming Bridge scenic area during the holiday.

Some 48 groups of lanterns lit up the ancient canal, making a 2.6-kilometer-long night tourism route especially for tourists taking to sightseeing boats.

Exhibitions marking the history and development of the last 70 years were held in Wuxi Museum, Wuxi Library and art museums.

The government stepped up its security and emergency response capabilities throughout the holiday, to ensure that everyone enjoyed a safe and pleasant environment during their stay in Wuxi.
