Shuozhou advances Sanggan River treatment

Shuozhou city in Shanxi province hosted a tourism promotion and project investment meeting for the Shuozhou section of the Sanggan River, in Beijing on July 14.

The event, which focused on the restoration and ecological treatment of Sanggan River, saw three tourism cooperation agreements signed. 

Accords on a total of 10 projects -- involving new energy, trade and logistics, modern coal chemicals and the tourism sectors, with an investment of 22.84 billion yuan ($3.32 billion) -- were reached at the event.

The Shuozhou city part of Sanggan river extends 135 kilometers, passing through 68 villages of the city. 

Officials said the city has been implementing treatment and restoration of the river since 2018, with a total of 1 billion yuan invested. 

So far, it has completed dredging of 118.3 km, cleared sludge and garbage of 4.274 million cubic meters, treated 443,000 cu m of smelly water, removed 175 illegal structures on the river, sealed 70 illegal sewage outlets and built 176.5 km of roads along the Sanggan River and planted 231,800 trees.
