Chinese currency exhibition staged in Taiyuan

An exhibition on China's currency – the renminbi – to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China opened in Shanxi Library in Taiyuan, in Shanxi province, on July 3. 

The exhibition consists of three parts. One is about the predecessor of the yuan,  showcasing the currency in Shanxi province during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45). 

The second is on the renminbi, demonstrating the five sets of the currency issued, as well commemorative coins and notes and also focusing on providing anti-counterfeiting information. 

The third part features a documentary on Chinese currency during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45). 

Shanxi province was once a revolutionary base of the Communist Party of China during that war. Officials said the banknotes and currency issued in local banks made a great contribution to wartime production, trade, and military support and laid a solid foundation for the establishment of a monetary system after the founding of the People's Republic of China.
