The city of Baotou, located in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, played host to 1.06 million tourists during the three-day holiday period on June 7-9, representing year-on-year growth of 13.7 percent, according to the Baotou Daily.

Total tourism revenue hit 564 million yuan ($81.57 million), surging 14.4 percent on the same period last year.

Officials said most tourists coming to the city chose short tours of the local area, with stops at major tourist attractions such as Wudang Lamasery and the Meidai Monastery, as well as the Chilechuan, Nanhai Wetland and the Shimen scenic areas.

To maintain a safe and orderly environment for tourists, the city introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions, with special arrangements initiated to ensure that adequate numbers of officials were on duty to handle complaints over the holiday period.
