An opening ceremony for the 8th Summit on Development of National Road-Trip Tourism and the 5th Summit Forum on the Development of Self-Driving Tours in North China was held in Tongliao, a city in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on June 11.

Nearly 300 experts, scholars, and enthusiasts from all over the country participated in the event to discuss a development report on self-driving tours in 2018, grades for self-driving destinations, and other newly-published industry standards, and to analyze the future prospects of self-driving tours.

Yu Feng, vice-mayor of Tongliao, said at the opening ceremony that Tongliao has accelerated structural reforms on the supply side of the tourism industry, designed and built the 500-kilometer Horqin Scenic Avenue for road-trip tourism, and implemented a self-driving tour service system project.

Tongliao has already built two portals, four small towns, and 13 camps and stations for self-driving tours, all of which have begun operating. Horqin Scenic Avenue has been listed as one of the greatest cultural tourism routes and the ten most popular self-driving tour routes in China.

Tongliao will use the summit to speed up the development and standardization of the self-driving tour service system in accordance with newly introduced industry standards.

Meanwhile, Horqin Scenic Avenue and a self-driving tour service system will be built and are expected to serve as an important platform for the integration of Tongliao culture and tourism. Horqin's unique cultural resources will be integrated into self-driving camps, providing tourists with a better cultural and leisure experience.
