Shanxi receives over 18m visitors during holiday

Shanxi province received 18.23 million tourists during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday on June 7-9, achieving year-on-year growth of 21.38 percent.

During the three-day vacation, 5.41 million overnight tourists and 12.81 million day-trippers toured the province, up 21.65 percent and 21.27 percent year-on-year respectively.

The crowds of tourists contributed 8.55 billion yuan ($1.24 billion) to the province's tourism revenue, representing annual growth of 23.83 percent. 

Various events featuring folk customs and celebrations related to the traditional Chinese festival, such as dragon boat race and poetry meeting, attracted many visitors.

Natural scenic areas and aquatic entertainment programs also proved popular with the tourists, to escape the summer heat.
