Authorities of Liuheng town in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, entered into a contract with Ruiqi Technology Co of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on June 6 for the latter to build an intelligent ocean equipment and high-tech material manufacturing park in the town.

This is the first industrial park that the city has introduced from a high-tech company affiliated with CAS.

"Considering the town's advantageous shipbuilding and hardware instrument industries, the first phase of the project will focus on developing an intelligent ship environment monitoring system and on auto-restoration technology targeting the wear of metals," said Yan Guobing, president of Ruiqi Technology.

The second phase will move on to R&D on the online monitoring of the ecological environment, using the internet of things technology for agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing, as well as the monitoring of ship exhaust emissions, added Yan.

The town has formed a port-centered industrial system integrating shipbuilding, energy production and bulk commodity warehousing, transport and processing.

The project will provide strong technological and talent support for the intelligent transformation of the shipping and hardware industries in Liuheng town and Zhoushan city as a whole, said Xu Weibo, director of the administrative committee of Liuheng.
