People in Rugao, a county-level city in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, can now pay bus fares with QR codes using Alipay, a mobile payment app, according to the Rugao people's government.

To use the service, people first need to obtain Nantong's Alipay bus e-card, which was first introduced to Nantong on Oct 8, 2018.

The mobile payment system makes riding buses more convenient for Rugao residents, saving them the trouble of scrounging for change or forgetting their bus card.

The system is available on the vast majority of bus lines in the city's urban areas and towns. In the future, it will be available on all buses.
