The Asia-Pacific headquarters (HQ) of the World Free Zone Organization will be established in Haikou's Jiangdong New District, according to the local government.

The headquarters was listed among the construction projects for the China (Hainan) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The move was aimed at supporting domestic free trade zones, particularly the free trade zone and port in Hainan, as well as offer financial support for the government, enterprises, and investors looking to promote two-way investment during the process of global economic integration. Its location in Haikou will help it become a window to the outside world.

According to the plan, the World Free Zone Organization will establish an array of supporting facilities and organizations in Haikou. A management center will also be built to support the organization's headquarters. Other major institutions, such as an international free zone research institute, a free trade zone cluster, a world free trade media center, and a free trade zone development fund, will be built to invigorate Haikou's commercial environment. This will also help consolidate its partnership with professional universities and experts and strengthen its academic foundation.

The World Free Zone Organization, an internationally influential institution based in Dubai, was founded in 2014 by 14 regional free trade zones in places like Shanghai, Dubai, and America. The organization maintains stable cooperation with major international organizations such as the World Trade Organization.
