Xiamen in East China's Fujian province, along with Suzhou and Wuhan, was recently honored as a Software City in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, local media reported.

Since its application for the title in 2013, Xiamen, based on its resource advantages, has ramped up efforts to develop software and information technology (IT) industries by constructing software parks, introducing renowned software companies, nurturing famous software products, and hosting software exhibitions.

In 2018, the revenue of the software and IT industries in Xiamen amounted to more than 149 billion yuan ($22.19 billion), more than half in the total of Fujian province and 2.5 times that of 2013.

More than 120 software companies in the city gross over 100 million yuan annually, 76 of which are listed. A group of representative software companies has sprung up in anime, computer game, information security and health care.

Xiamen will continue practicing the national policy of software industry development, create a better business climate for that industry and effectively manage the software parks in a bid to advance the development of software and IT industries in China.

To date, 12 cities in China have won the title of Software City. The nine others are Nanjing, Jinan, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Fuzhou.
