Steamed sand eel (清蒸沙鳗)

When dining out in Zhoushan, visitors might find it hard to decide what to eat. The great variety of seafood in the city is breathtaking, and the local cooking techniques can sometimes be very creative and sophisticated. However, the less ambitious the food, the better it tends to be. Steamed sand eel is a perfect example.

The sand eel of Zhoushan is famous for its tender texture, rich nutritional value and fresh taste. The oily but not greasy meat is overwhelmingly satisfying for people who seek for a seafood adventure in the tourist mecca.

Since the sand eel contains rich flavor itself, there is no need to add more ingredients to it except for ginger, garlic, salt and soybean sauce. Cleansed, seasoned and steamed for about 15 minutes, the eel is ready to be enjoyed.

It is also said that the sand eel can cure tuberculosis.
