Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province recently issued its first port operation permit to a port company, according to an announcement from the local port and shipping administration bureau.

The move followed the acceptance inspection of the No 1 to No 3 berths at Qiaotoujiang work zone of Quzhou port's Longyou port area.

The Qiaotoujiang work zone is designed to construct 16 berths capable of handling 500 tons of bulk cargo, breakbulk and containers with an overall length of 880 meters.

Port companies need to submit 16 different application documents before acquiring the permit, according to a spokesman for Quzhou Port and Shipping Administration Bureau.

In a bid to facilitate the local company's application, the Quzhou bureau dispatched a staff member to give the company some guidance on the matter.

The Zhejiang Seaport Longyou Port Co has just recently obtained the pilot permit and in six months time, it will be able to acquire an official permit.
