Suzhou orchestra marks 70 years of PRC at Beijing concert

The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra made its debut on Jan 14 at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing to greet the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) with the China National Symphony Orchestra.

Under the baton of Chinese conductor Pang Kapang, the orchestra performed the work Symphony of Feng, Ya, Song with five movements by the Chinese composer Zhao Jipin following the national orchestra's performance.

The Suzhou Chinese Orchestra, co-founded by the Suzhou municipal government and Suzhou New District in December 2017, is aimed at promoting traditional Chinese culture by integrating Chinese folk music into orchestra performances, and reinterpreting and expressing traditional Chinese music through the symphonic format.

From Jan 15 to Feb 10, the Suzhou orchestra is scheduled to give concerts in 13 European cities in nine countries, including cities in Germany, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Russia.

During the tour, the orchestra will also be invited to put on performances to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of friendly relations between China and Russia, and Poland.
