Timeline of key moments for the development of border trade in Manzhouli:

In 1988, Manzhouli was approved to be a national pilot economic reform and open zone.

In 1992, Manzhouli was listed in the first batch of open cities along the border approved by the State Council.

In 2002, Manzhouli Railway Port Joint Inspection Building was officially opened. More than 30 relevant departments including Customs, Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (CIQ) and Finance and Taxation in the building provide one-stop services to people, which greatly cut the time for procedures.

In 2006, Manzhouli Highway Port launched the 24-hour customs clearance mechanism. China’s only highway port enjoys such a mechanism.

In 2008, an international freight yard project with an investment of 10 billion ($14.8 billion) yuan was launched at Manzhouli Railway Port.

In 2009, Manzhouli Xijiao Airport was opened to the public.

In 2012, Manzhouli was upgraded into a key State pilot development and open zone in line with China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

In 2017, Manzhouli Highway Port leads China’s border ports in implementing the Single Window Clearance System, improving the port’s capacity of annually handling 10 million visitors, 1 million vehicles and 10 million tons of cargo.

In 2018, Manzhouli was approved to be a national-level pilot border tourism zone by the State Council.
