Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province received the title of National Forest Tourism Demonstration at the 2018 China Forest Tourism Festival in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Dec 16.

The title is granted by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration to cities or counties with sound forest landscape resources who have made remarkable achievements in developing forest tourism.

Quzhou boasts 37 species of national-level protected animals, 26 species of national-level protected plants, and eight state or provincial-level natural reserves.

The city is also the only prefecture-level city in China with a high number of national forest parks, including a world natural heritage site.

In recent years, the local government has paid particular attention to forest tourism and issued many preferential policies to promote its development. A two-hour tour package has been created including Quzhou and the scenic spots of cities in neighboring provinces, such as Mount Huang in Anhui and Mount Wuyi in Fujian.

In 2017, Quzhou welcomed more than 64 million visitors and the forest tourism industry in the city generated 45 billion yuan ($6.5 billion), up by 25 percent year-on-year.
