Cross-Straits financial research center lands in Xiamen

The Cross-Straits Financial Development Research Center of Xiamen University was inaugurated in Fujian province on Dec 5. With the launch coming as part of the 2018 Cross-Straits Entrepreneurs Summit, the center attracted attention from many major players in the cross-Straits financial industry.

The center was jointly initiated and established by the Financial Industry Cooperation Promotion Group of the Cross-Straits Entrepreneurs Summit, Xiamen University, Xiamen International Trade Group, Xiamen Bank and Xiamen International Bank, with the aim of providing a new platform for further cross-Straits financial cooperation.

The founders will establish teams to carry out research on exploring new models for cross-Straits economic and financial cooperation, so as to promote economic integration and development.

Zhang Rong, president of the Xiamen University, said at the opening ceremony that the establishment of the center was based on the principles of complementary advantages, win-win cooperation, mutual benefit and common development.

"Xiamen University has unique conditions and advantages for cross-Straits financial development research," he added, saying that it has a long history of financial studies and has special advantages in Taiwan research.

He expressed his hopes that the center will facilitate the exchange of financial practitioners while upholding the purpose to serve the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and to promote economic and social integration.

Cai Rongjun, deputy director of the Office of Financial Industry Cooperation Promotion Group of the summit and president of the Bank of China Taipei Branch, said that the facility provides a platform for cross-Straits further pragmatic cooperation and exchanges in terms of reserch on theories, policies and practices in the sector and that in the future, more institutions will participate as partners.
