In China, drunk driving and drag racing are incorporated into criminal law. Under the Amendment to the Criminal Law of the People Republic of China (VIII), a person who chases with other automobiles when driving on the road or commits drunk-driving shall be sentenced to criminal detention and be concurrently given a fine, provided that the circumstances are grave.

A person who commits any of the acts under the preceding Paragraph, thus constituting any other crime, shall be convicted of and punished by the crime carrying a heavier punishment.

Meanwhile, the revised Road Traffic Safety Law also stipulates that whoever drives a motor vehicle after drinking alcohol shall be imposed upon the penalty of temporary seizure of his motor vehicle driving license for 6 months and be imposed upon a fine of not less than 1000 Yuan but not more than 2000 Yuan as well.
