Guangdong allows e-voucher for hotel accommodation

Updated: Nov 6, 2018 Print

Starting Nov 5, Guangdong residents are able to check into any local hotels above three stars with an electronic voucher for their identity card or residence permit, according to the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department.

Residents can log into the WeChat applet "粤省事" (yuè shěng shì), and link their ID card or residence permit. An electronic voucher will be generated after successful facial recognition, and people can present it when needed.

Using an electronic voucher allows people to leave their ID cards at home and eliminates the need to provide a photocopy of their ID card to prove their identity. Not only is it ridiculously convenient, but it also reduces the risk of stolen or lost ID cards.

It should be noted that the electronic voucher will be invalid if the ID card/residence permit is expired or reported missing, or if its owner transfers the household registration out of Guangdong province.
