Day 4: Nanjing, Jiangsu province

In the morning, you can pay a visit to Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum. Known as the father of modern China, Dr. Sun led the revolution to overthrow the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and founded the Republic of China (1912-49) where he served as its first provisional president.

The mausoleum is situated at the foot of the second peak of Mount Zijin (Purple Mountain). As you climb up, the marble dolmen, the pavilion, sacrificial hall and coffin chamber come into view one by one, perfectly demonstrating traditional Chinese architectural styles.

At Nanjing Taicheng Wall (Ming City History Museum) near Xuanwu Lake, you can walk atop the 600-year-old fortification and soak in the impressive overview of Xuanwu Lake and Nanjing's growing skyline.
