A series of lectures have been held recently in Putuo district, Zhoushan city, Zhejiang province, to raise people's innovative awareness and scientific literacy to increase the pool of highly skilled workers and drive the technological innovation of the district.

The latest lecture was given by Constantin Polychronakos, an academician of the Academy of Science of the Royal Society of Canada and a leading scientist in the international diabetes genetics field, in the Youth Center of Putuo on July 27, attracting over a hundred technological entrepreneurs and young cadres to attend.

Polychronakos came to Zhoushan two years ago, after learning of a recruitment campaign for highly skilled workers organized by Zhejiang province for overseas professionals to develop the province’s healthcare industry that encompassed Zhoushan city, including the Putuo district.

He revealed in the lecture of his plans to establish a service platform integrating the diagnosis, classification, DNA sequencing, risk evaluation and personalized treatment of diabetes in Zhoushan.

Statistics show that Putuo has introduced 3,468 highly skilled workers in the first half of the year, submitted 26 innovation and entrepreneurship projects for the city government's approval, and has applied for an enterprise institute and two research centers for provincial-level high-tech enterprises.
