The inauguration of Inner Mongolia University of Technology (IMUT) Institute of Russian and Mongolian Studies was held in Hohhot, North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on June 22.

More than 200 experts, scholars and researchers gathered to discuss economic and trade cooperation between China, Russia and Mongolia.

With a focus on the Belt and Road Initiative, the institute aims to bring together Chinese and foreign experts to provide theoretical support for economic and technological cooperation between China, Mongolia and Russia, said Jin Rui, secretary of the Communist Party Committee at IMUT, speaking at the ceremony.

The institute's role will be to put forward policy suggestions for related government departments, as well as organizing academic forums, seminars and research funding, he added.

Wang Wenjie, deputy director of Commerce Department of Inner Mongolia autonomous region said that the department will assist the research of the institute by providing the data of regional ports.

A forum on trilateral industrial and technical cooperation between China, Mongolia, and Russia was also held the same day. Researchers analyzed the state of development in each country to try to find areas in which the three economies would be able to benefit each other.
