Shanxi provincial government signed a partnership agreement in Taiyuan on June 13 with Tencent, a leading domestic provider of internet value-added services, for constructing a digital Shanxi.

Luo Huining, Party chief of Shanxi province, said that Shanxi takes digital development as a key move toward innovation-driven transformation and will support the big data industry by drawing up related plans and enacting appropriate policies.

There is a sound foundation in the province for cooperation between Shanxi and Tencent, which has supported Shanxi's public safety system in establishing the first provincial examination and approval service platform in China, he added.

Luo expressed his hopes that Tencent will make full use of its advantages in internet and information value-added services to help construction of a digital Shanxi and high-quality economic growth in the province.

Tencent CEO Ma Huateng said that Shanxi is a vital domestic energy and industrial base with great potential in internet and technology development. He promised that the company will advance integration of the internet with local industries based on Shanxi's big data development plans and improve information-based services to the public.

According to the agreement, the two sides will collaborate in fields including e-government, digital industry and public services based on information technology. Tencent will build a big data research institute along with Shanxi Yunshidai Technology Co, a State-owned big data company.
