Inner Mongolia Otog Economic Development Zone

Founded in 2001, Inner Mongolia Otog Economic Development Zone (内蒙古鄂托克经济开发区) is located in western Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region –– 60 kilometers north of downtown Wuhai. The economic zone officially commenced operations in 2003. It has a total population of 82,000, with a planned area of 85 square kilometers (including 20 sq km in the eastern area).

There are 102 companies in the zone, including 52 above designated size. In 2016, it achieved a total industrial output value of 54 billion yuan and invested 14 billion yuan in fixed assets.

The four leading industries in the zone are coal, power, metallurgy, and chemicals.

The economic zone has become the largest iron alloy production base in the world. 

It has been identified by the National Development and Reform Commission as a demonstration pilot base for recycling projects, and a pilot base for low-carbon industries.

Since its establishment, the economic zone has invested over 110 billion yuan in fixed assets and achieved a total industrial output value of more than 350 billion yuan. Its total green area is nearly 10 million square meters, with per capita green area of over 100 sq m. Annually, 70 percent of days are rated as having “good” air quality.
