Established in March 1992 and covering 70.1 square kilometers, Inner Mongolia Manzhouli Border Economic Cooperation Zone (内蒙古满洲里边境经济合作区) is one of 14 national border economic cooperation zones approved by the State Council.

The zone has invested 1.37 billion yuan ($207 million) in infrastructure construction, developing the main urban area of Manzhouli, which is home to more than 100,000 residents. The zone hosts dedicated areas for administration, business and trade, and residences as well as an industrial park for processing of imported resources.

The industrial park is a base and cluster for imported wood processing, focusing on timber processing, building materials and chemical engineering.

The first phase of the zone project will accommodate 100 timber companies, more than 90 percent of those currently in Manzhouli. Their products, ranging from laminated timber and finger-joint boards to wooden windows and wooden decoration frames, are sold in China, Southeast Asia, Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea.
