Steel industry

The steel industry is one of the five pillar industries in Baotou. Led by Baogang Group, Baotou boasts an annual steel production capacity of more than 14 million tons (excluding Baogang Group’s new projects).
The steel industry cluster takes pig iron, steel, rolled steel and augmented products as the core of a steel and iron industrial chain which includes the processing of iron ore, iron and steel melting, special steel, stainless steel and steel production.
In the first three quarters of 2017 the steel industry saw a growth rate of 5.6 percent over the same period last year.
